Countdown to the Razzies: Twilight

The Razzies are the anti-oscars. They represent the worst films to come out the previous year. These awards have been presented to many well liked actors and actresses, including Halle Berry and Michael Myers. Ironically enough, Halle Berry’s Razzie Award and Oscar for leading actress came fairly close to one another. But I digress, this years Razzie Awards have a few gems in them. Amongst these cinematic masterpieces, Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1 is making its presence felt. The categories which this “film,” and I use that term losely, received nominations for are Worst Picture, Worst Screen Ensemble, Worst Director, Worst Sequel, Worst On-Screen Couple and Worst Screenplay. Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner also received nominations.

I understand that the books have a HUGGEE following, and people love the characters of Bella, Edward, and Jacob. (Although for the life of me, I really wonder why any young woman would want to relate to such a man dependent, useless character such as Bella). But what I do not understand, is how this rabid fan base, has just accepted and even applauded the subpar product that this movie franchise has produced. Fans of these books should be furious, and should not show the support for these movies as blindly as they have. How do I know they support these movie? Look at the box office numbers. They speak for themselves.

Unfortunately, Breaking Dawn Part 2 will draw just as much money in the box office as the other movies. We can continue to see Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson do an absolutely terrible job acting. Or just maybe, the screenwriting and directing will be competent, but not likely.
