Emma Stone Refreshing Young Talent; Countdown to the Oscars

This generation of actresses, has been riddled with talentless women, with nothing more than sex appeal. Too often, these women have been cast in roles where which requires certain amount of growth and development, when they simply do not have the range to complete the task. Prime examples of these talentless pretty faces are Megan Fox, Kristen Stewart, Blake Lively, and Michelle Rodriguez. Studios and directors do not seem to care about an actress’ talent, even at times, to the detriment of the movie/story itself. One actress in this generation who is not talentless, and has a different look than a lot of the other big names in Hollywood, is Emma Stone. When I first saw Emma in Superbad, I recognized that she was actually talented. Since then, I have enjoyed her in movies such as Easy A, Zombieland. and while I did not like this picture, Stone was very good in the movie Housebunny. She is a versatile and talented actress, who can act in any movie.

Most recently, Emma Stone played the role of Skeeter in The Help. This movie is takes place in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960’s. Skeeter sees that black maids are being mistreated, and decides to collect testimonials of these maids’ mistreatments. A publishing company agrees to publish a book, filled with maids’ testimonials if enough can be collected. Although reluctant at first, the maids agree and help Skeeter complete her book. The Help is nominated for best picture, and rightfully so, it really was a phenomenal picture. This is one movie I thought I would not like, but it was one of the biggest surprises possibly of my movie viewing career. Emma Stone was outstanding in this film, and she truly showed how much range as an actress she possesses.

I agree that Stone is a refreshing actress, and adds an intangible something that makes her fun to watch. I look forward to her in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, as I am thinking that she might be the only positive based on what I’ve seen so far. I hope that it’s better than it looks. Superbad, Zombieland and The Help were all good movies, and she definitely held her own (and even shined) in all three.

And even though I thought I wouldn’t like it, Crazy Stupid Love was pretty good too. And she was quite good in that too. She has a very charming, disarming quality. Hard to figure out exactly why she’s so likable, but she is.
