Depends on What the Meaning of the Word 'Blog' is

All this Super Bowl jibber jabber got me to thinking. This is usually a very dangerous activity, so proceed with caution. Anyway, I got to wondering: “Yo, like, what’s up with the word ‘super’?” I mean, it’s a great, versatile (super) word. It has character and charisma. It’s ubiquitous, and you know a word has arrived if it’s associated with super.

But, oddly, very few people, if any, ever say ‘super’ by itself. Unless you’re in a 70s cop movie or cop TV show where the police want to get into an apartment and have to look up the building super(intendent). Otherwise, ‘super’ is pretty much unavailable without an accompanying word.

Here are just a few of the ways in which you’d hear ‘super’ commonly used:

  • supermodel
  • Superman
  • Super Bowl
  • Super PACs
  • Super Pac Man
  • Supermarkets
  • Super Tuesday
  • super 8
  • Super Pages
  • Super Trooper
  • Super Mario
